Gerard Riemen

Managing Director Federation of the Dutch Pension Funds

Gerard Riemen graduated in Social Security Sciences in 1988 and in Economics in 1989 at Tilburg University. After his studies he became a policy advisor at the Social Insurance bank. In 1990 he transferred to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment to be responsible for the Organisational Law of Social Insurances.
As of the first of January 1993 he started to work for the Department of Social Insurances and Pensions. At the Department of General Issues and Financing, where he began in 1995, he was involved in formulating various social memoranda.
 
In 1997 he returned to the Department of Social Insurances and Pensions, first as a coordinator and later as head of the department. Until April 2007 he was as head of department intensively involved in every important pension file. From the first of April 2007 until June of 2008 he was director of the Directorate of Implementation Policy at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. As of the first of June 2008 Gerard Riemen was director of the Association of Industry-wide Pension Funds (VB) en since 15 November 2010 he is Managing Director of the Federation of the Dutch pension funds, which is a cooperation between the umbrella organizations for industry-wide (VB), occupational (UvB) and company (OPF) pension funds.
