Vice President, Pension Legal for OMERS Administration Corporation
Mr. Gibbins joined the OMERS Administration Corporation in 2007 after working in the pension and benefits group at a leading Canadian corporate law firm. As Vice President, Pension Legal, Mr. Gibbins is responsible for, providing legal advice on a wide range of pension and corporate matters, with a focus on the administration of the OMERS pension plan and implementation of strategic initiatives. He has significant experience in pension law and is also experienced in tax, family law, municipal law, estates and succession law. Mr. Gibbins received his Bachelor of Commerce, Masters of Industrial Relations and Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Mr. Gibbins is a member of the Ontario Bar Association Pensions & Benefits executive.
The OMERS pension plan was created to provide financial security to municipal workers in Ontario, Canada and their families when they retire. Since the first plan members enrolled in 1963, OMERS has grown into one of Canada’s largest pension plans with net assets of $60.8 billion. Today, as OMERS enters its 50th year, plan membership is at a new high of 429,000 and over 124,000 current retired members and survivors receive an annual pension from OMERS.
