In his professional practice, Eric Bergamin (1965) advises corporate organisations and pension funds (both industry-wide and corporate pension funds or insurance companies) on a wide variety of topics, always with a direct link to pensions law. He focuses on pension-related matters that arise during the course of national and international mergers and acquisitions. The organisational structure of pension funds, financing issues and legal aspects of the accountancy regulations (IFRS/IFRIC related to pensions) that apply in the case of pension schemes also constitute one of his specialisms. Recently, Eric has assisted pension funds with their recovery plans, which they were legally obliged to implement due to the shortfall in assets caused by the financial crisis.
Eric is a member of the Dutch Pension Law Association and of the International Pensions and Benefit Lawyers Association IPEBLA. Since July 2008, he is the Chairman of the Dutch Association of Pension Specialists [Kring van Pensioenspecialisten], an organisation of several hundreds of pension specialist throughout the pensions industry in the Netherlands. Eric is a very active member of the International Practice Group Pensions of Ius Laboris.
Eric Bergamin was also the author of various publications and regularly publishes articles on a variety of topics relating to pensions. From 1999 until mid-2008, Eric Bergamin was the editor of “Pensioenbrief”, a specialist periodical published by Kluwer.
After having worked for a substantial period of time for a number of large and well-reputed organisations, Eric Bergamin, together with Jos Gielink, a pensions tax specialist, founded a lawfirm that specialises entirely in providing legal pensions advice - Bergamin & Gielink pensioenrechtadvies B.V in 2005.
